After the tragic events that unfolded during the Denmark vs Finland EURO 2020 match, we wanted to create this news article about the importance of having a basic knowledge in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as well as knowledge of how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
The events that unfolded in Copenhagen united all football fans across the world and thanks to the wonderful medical staff Denmark's Christian Erikson's life was saved.
Firstly, before the process of resuscitation begins a primary survey must be carried out. This primary survey can be remembered from this simple acronym.
DR. ABC
D. - Danger
R. - Response
A. - Airways
B. - Breathing
C - Call 999
Here is a useful video that goes through the steps of a primary survey.
After Primary survey has been completed there are 2 options.
- If the patient is breathing place them into the recovery position and monitor them until the ambulance arrives.
- If the patient is not breathing, you will need to begin CPR.

2.
A patient has a much higher chance of survival when treated with an AED after cardiac arrest. If an AED is available to you when performing CPR do not hesitate to use the AED if needed.
